One of the 12,808 students who graduated from University of Benin on Saturday grabbed the attention of Nigerians on the internet with his impressive performance.

Pius Ojemolon, a University of Benin medical graduate, bagged 19 awards at his university convocation on Saturday. The awards include school sponsored Best graduating student in pathology, Best graduating student in pharmacology, Best graduating student in community health, Best graduating student in obstetrics and gynaecology, Best graduating student in internal medicine, Best graduating student in surgery, Best graduating student in the School of Medicine and others sponsored by groups and individuals
.

Saturday was not the first time Ojemolon would win the admiration of his lecturers, colleagues and Nigerians. In 2015, he was awarded the Most Outstanding Medical Student for his ground-breaking distinction in the third professional Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in Pathology and Clinical Pharmacology held in that year.

pius-ojemolon2Ojemolon had his elementary education at Licia Private School, Ewah Road, Benin City, Edo State. He moved on to Convent Christian Academy, also in Benin City for his secondary school education.

About his source of inspiration the 23-year-old said: “God above all, then my parents, Mr and Mrs Pius Ojemolon. They have inspired me since I was a child and I’m eternally grateful to them.”

Being an avid sports lover, whenever he is not studying his medical books, he is busy analysing sports on ‘the4musketeers.com.ng’, a sports platform he co-founded with three of his friends.

“The next step now is Housemanship,” said Ojemolon, who described himself as always thinking out of the box, weirdly imaginative but driven and motivated. He hopes to begin that in the nearest future.

FG Warns Agencies Against Rejecting Of Corp Members

The Federal Government has directed all Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to accept Corps members posted to them by the National Youth Service Corps.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engineer Babachir David Lawal, conveyed the directive in a circular to the MDAs.
The circular, with reference number SGF.15/T/745, reads in part: “Government’s attention has been drawn to the growing incidence of rejection of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to government establishments.
“To put an end to this undesirable development, it has become necessary to reiterate that the directive that Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) should not reject Youth Corps members posted to them for their primary assignment is still in force.”

Engineer Lawal said the government’s directive was imperative in order to maintain the objective of the NYSC Scheme, which includes the involvement of Nigerian graduates of specific age category in national development and integration.
He says government establishments are also directed to ensure that the Corps members are actively engaged during their primary assignment just as the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports through the National Youth Service Corps is expected to monitor the level of compliance and give periodic reports to the government.

Read More On the discontinuation of JAMB Scratch cards via the link Here

PAYMENTS OPTION

A new payment option has also been disclosed by the Joint Admission Matriculation Board [JAMB]
The following channels will be made available:
i. Web Payment: ATM issued cards (Visa, Verve and Master card)
i. Online Quick Teller
ii. ATM Payment

OPTIONS PROVIDED FOR 2017 UTME REGISTRATION

Now straight to the main point which is the registration procedures, like we all know that mostly registration are done by cafe registrant but this year registration will be interactive and all students are advised to partake in learning on how to register.
Please all candidates are to note that the examination board have provided 4 Option to aid registration.
The Four (4) options are available to a candidate who wishes to register, they include:
1. A mobile app will be created for a candidate to download for his/her registration and payment after which he/she goes to the Registration Centre for bio-metrics capturing only.

[Note This Will Be Available Once Online Registration Kicks Off!!!]

2. All systems at the Registration centre will be enabled for candidates who wish to go to the centre to register by themselves using the Registration Centre Systems, pay with card and then go for biometric capturing.
3. An operator at the Registration Centre assists the candidate with entering his/her data for registration, then goes to the bank to pay and capturing of his/her biometrics.

He does the registration, receive the cash and the candidate goes for capturing of biometric.

ITEMS NEEDED BY  CANDIDATES FOR REGISTRATION

Yes, lets now move on to the necessary items which you are required to obtain before registration in-order to avoid mistakes during the process.
Below are the items you are expected to have before proceeding with the online registration.
i. Details of O’ Level result where it is available or O’ Level subjects expected in the case of those awaiting results.

Now Here are the New Rules and Regulations of JAMB For 2017 [Do's and Don'ts], Please read it carefully as any defaulter does so at his or her own risk.
Candidates will be emphatically informed to guard their registration numbers jealously as registration numbers are personal and security items to candidates.

Now you see how rigorous this process might be, so its better you don't fall a victim [I know many will still be a victim].

REGISTRATION AT THE  COMPUTER BASED TEST CENTRES

JAMB Has brought out rules to all cafe attendants and center owners to allow candidates use their system for registration, which means you can walk in to any JAMB Approved center and request them to unlock their PC to enable you carry out your registration, this does not imply you wont be charged, but a stipulated fee has been mapped out for each candidate registration. Sound good right??? Continue reading below:

Computer Based Test Centre in public institutions should be urged to register as ventures. This will enable them to receive payment and easily access funds to pay their workers without
necessarily going through bureaucratic processes.
While the NET profit can be transferred to Treasury Single Account (TSA) where applicable.

PROVISION OF BROCHURE TO CANDIDATES

As we all know each year during JAMB Registration brochures are being given out to students, though not all, as most students might not be issued the brochure due to its limited supply, well the Board is happy to let you know that this year will be quite different as brochure will be downloaded online immediately after registration has been enabled, so get your Android device and Pc ready, continue reading below:
In order to minimize errors during registration by candidates and also to ensure that candidates
have ready access to the brochure needed for registration, the brochure will be provided in three (3) modes which are:
i. The brochure will be on the JAMB portal. As soon as a candidate creates his/her profile on the JAMB portal, there will be a link that will take him/her straight to the brochure.
He/she is to confirm reading the brochure for continuation of registration
ii. As soon as the candidate creates his profile, an electronic copy of the brochure will be automatically sent to his/her e-mail which he/she has provided.
iii. A CD of the brochure and Syllabus will be given to him/her at the biometric capturing site.
At the point of capturing the biometrics, there must be an evidence that the candidate collected the brochure CD and recommended book.

ACTIVITIES OF BANKS AT THE REGISTRATION CENTRE

So after reading the above instructions we will move over to the roles the Banks have to play during your registration in-order to aid faster and more convenient registration process.
All Registration Centres will be given a list of accredited banks.
  • Each Registration Centre will be allowed to choose the bank it would like to work with.
  • After choosing the bank, an officer from the bank will be stationed at the centre to do the following:
  • Assist candidates to create their profile and pay through any of the payment options they wish to use.
  • Collect Seven Hundred Naira (N700) per candidate for either registration and/or biometric capture directly into the account of the centre.
  • The banks will be expected to open avenues of payment:

Payment of Application Fees

Payment of Seven Hundred Naira (N700) to the designated account of the Registration
Centre.
At the end, give a receipt to each candidate for the Seven Hundred Naira (N700) payment for registration or biometric capturing at the centre.

ABUSE BY APPROVED  CBT CENTRES AND CYBER CAFÉ OPERATORS

Last years and subsequent years Cyber agents have been involved in many irregularities and abuse during registration, this has prompted the examination board to map out strict measures that will be meted out to cyber agents who defaults during the 2017 registration exercise.

1. IRREGULARITIES OBSERVED:

It has been observed by the Board, that in the past, there were lots of irregularities during registration of candidates. Some of which are as
follows:
  1. Off-line registration means that candidates are given template form to fill and enter their details
  2. and the Registration centres would later enter their data for them on-line at a later time when the candidates were not present.
  3. Registration Centres did off-line registration for candidates and in the process of completing them on-line, mismatched their images and made mistakes in the candidates’ data.
  4. Registration Centres deliberately went to the hinterland to register candidates off-line in order to create Special Centres where they could further perpetrate Irregularities during examinations.
  5. Punish uncompromising candidates by changing their centres and/or institutions without their knowledge/consent.
  6. Swapped and replaced particulars of uncompromising candidates with others and used money paid for other candidates.

MEASURES TAKEN BY THE BOARD

  1. Payment for access code by Registration Centres has been cancelled. All systems in the Registration Centre will be enabled for the registration.
  2. None of these systems therefore can be used for registration outside the Registration Centre.
  3. Candidates will now have access to all the systems at the Computer Based Test (CBT) Centre for the registration exercise.
  4. This is unlike before where only one system was used by the Computer Based Test (CBT) Centre for registration.
  5. Candidates will be properly educated to understand that their registration numbers are private and security numbers which they must not divulge.
  6. Any candidate who discloses his/her registration number, does so at his/her own risk.
  7. An alert system has been created for notifications on changes in the candidates details at each stage of the registration process.

ACCOUNTABILITY IN REGISTRATION CENTRES

Registration Centres are hereby urged to appoint credible staff to man their Centre to ensure credibility and accountability.
It has also been observed that some Public Registration Centres refused registration because of “low return”. These returns are not low as claimed but officers in charge do not remit appropriately.

NOTE:

  • As a student after reading this please do use the share buttons to re-broadcast to your freinds online, for them to be also aware of the instructions as written here.

This is a sad news coming in from Zamfara. As the new corpers were settling down in their hostels after a stressful journey, dare devil armed Robbers raised the camp. Collecting phones, cash and every available property belonging to the new Corpers.

Reports reaching us said the Robbers were in many groups attacking both the male and female hostels around 2am in a raid that lasted till 4am this morning. If you have anyone in that camp and you can't reach them, please be calm. They definitely will have to find a way to make calls through at the Mammy Market this morning.

15 Sad Truth About University Degrees In Ghana (Photos)

$

Although there are many Universities and graduates in the country than before, the information out there about graduates is pretty sad.

Gone are the days when a degree meant you’ve joined the elite train. These days, it is less than even an SHS certificate because you will end up doing the same job as an SHS graduate. Here is some sad information about University degrees that will bring you to tears.

1. Brainwashing

Many graduates don’t get jobs related to the programmes they offered at the university. This creates a chunk of brainwashed graduates in the country. Graduates who offered electrical engineering are now bank tellers or marketers.

2. Salespeople

More than 40% of degree holders are now retail salespeople in supermarkets.

3. Menial Jobs

More than 1/3 of graduates end up taking jobs that don’t even require college degrees. Anything to survive is the order of the day.

Mass Failure Going On at National Open University of Nigeria

$

This has been a very disturbing issue on the heart of students. In this second batch of the National Open University of Nigeria (noun) 2016, noun have been out of the league, if I would say.

Noun is said to be an online/distance learning institution but for over some months now the students have not been able to assess the school portal, and this has resulted in some major issues with some student not being able to complete their registration, pay their fees or submit their test (Tma).

Noun, being aware that there is no way to communicate or pass announcement to students, without even sending out text messages to them, went ahead to fix an examination.

I have never heard where a distance learning institution is operating an exam when their portal is not accessible. Noun didn't only block out the students from not being able to access their private portal they also made most of them not to be able to write their test without any reasonable explanation on why the portal shut down.

With all this happening, 95 percent of the students who are writing their exams have been recording mass failure in all the 3 exams that have taken place, with no student scoring up to 50 in the exams.

The scores have been circling from 0-30 and with that, students have been complaining but noun officials seems to be putting on deaf ears to their complains. There have also been complains of malfunctioning computers and incomplete questions having no solutions in them but still no staff is giving any response to it and no official is wanting to resolve or bring solution to it.

Most students are angry and are saying the exam should stop till a time when the portal is rectified, even if it will take all through the year, than for them to be treated as if they don't matter at all.

Final Year Student of UNN Commits Suicide

Over 90% of 200,000 N-Power Beneficiaries Cleared

*Physical verification will take place before final deployment of graduates
*Process Fraud-Free, Presidency assures

Over 90% of the 200,000 unemployed Nigerian graduates selected in the first batch of the N-Power Volunteer Corps, NPVC, have been verified using the Bank Verification Number, and any untrue information submitted in the process of application is a ground for disqualification.

This clarification was given on Sunday by the Senior Special Assistant on Media & Publicity in the Office of the Vice President, Mr. Laolu Akande, while giving an update on the N-Power Volunteer Corps which is now advancing with assignment of beneficiaries to their places of deployments in their states of residence.

Akande who referred to a BBC report last week regarding the testimonials of some of the selected Nigerian graduates noted that “it is most gladdening that those who were selected are now telling the stories of how they have not been employed for years, but now grateful to the President for this initiative.”

Some of them, he added, express satisfaction, according to the BBC report now online, that even though they knew no one in government, they were selected for the paid volunteer job program, attesting to the transparency of the selection process.

The Senior Special Assistant stated that all the states and the FCT through the focal persons they appointed have since received the list of the 200,000, and now working on deploying the beneficiaries to their places of assignment.

He also explained that by using the BVN which is one of the most viable means of identification in the country today, there is hardly any way anything fraudulent can sail through in the process.

“We are confident that the selection process, all the way through with BVN, and physical verification at the points of deployment in the states and the local government areas, are both transparent and impossible to abhor ghost beneficiaries, or any kind of fraud,” he asserted.

Already, Akande disclosed that 93% of those selected have been screened through the BVN, with the commendable assistance of the Nigerian Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc, NIBSS, and only authentic and verifiable beneficiaries will be paid the N30,000 monthly stipends starting December.

Responding to some allusions made in sections of the media about random searches conducted on social media platforms, the SSA dismissed them stating that such cannot be better than “biometric identification we have secured through the BVN.”

In any case he continued, “besides the BVN, there is going to be physical verification, through an in-built component in our selection system that requires that information submitted online during the application would have to be authenticated at the point of deployment across the country, including verification of academic credentials and residence status.”

According to him, just as is normal when someone gets a job or even admission to school, he or she would proceed to present papers that have been submitted during application for verification. “This is also going to be like that, so claims about some applicants claiming to be residents of states would be dealt with if it turns out such claims are false. If an applicant cannot supply proof of residence, the selection is terminated.”

Besides, he explained that in a local government such as Abadam in Borno State, where there have been claims that non residents applied and were selected, Akande assured that there is no cause for alarm because such people would have to show up for verification on the spot.

He added that there was also a likelihood that a number of applicants may have inputted Abadam inadvertently considering that Abadam LGA is number one on the list of LGAs under the list as posted on the N-Power portal. “There is a good chance,” he continued, “that some applicants may have failed to complete the forms online accurately.”

Such errors are being reviewed and anyone found not to be resident in the LGA would be removed and replaced using the waiting list of applicants.

Said he: “An important aspect of the application was that applicants were told in clear terms that any false information would be grounds for disqualification.”

On how the 200,000 first batch of the N-Power was selected, the SSA Media explained that the selection was not only fair and done transparently, but also with adequate care.

Firstly, 40% of those who applied for the N-Power Teach and Agric were selected, and 50% of those who applied for the Health category, all based on an assessment test.

Then to mitigate the adverse socio-economic circumstances in the North- East an additional 4800 applicants from the region were selected with Borno State getting 1200 and Adamawa, Yobe, Taraba 800 each and Bauchi and Gombe 600 each.

Also to bolster states with low application numbers, an additional 4208 was selected and shared between Bayelsa, Jigawa, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States. The Federal Ministry of Agric also additionally allocated 6799 applicants in the Agric category to all states across specific crop, fish and livestock targets in order to support government’s self-sufficiency target in Agric produce.

Gender and disability factor were also key in the selection. 46% of those selected, Akande disclosed, are females, while a total of 1126 were successful applicants with disabilities.

Akande then assured that those not selected in the first batch are now in the waiting list until the subsequent batches when they would be considered again, since there are still 300,000 to be selected under this budget cycle.

On why the selection process was based on states of residence rather than states of origin, Akande simply noted that for example, over 42,000 Nigerians applied for the N-Power from Lagos but only 3568 of them originate from Lagos. “Would it then be tenable to say almost 40,000 Bona fide Nigerians who are applicants resident in Lagos should just forget it since they are resident but not origins of the Lagos State?
