The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU on Sunday declared a nationwide strike action to commence the same day – Sunday August 13 2017.
The Union took the decision to declare the strike after deliberations at its National Executive Council, NEC meeting held at University of Abuja on August 12 2017, ASUU National President,  Comrade Biodun Ogunyemi said.
Ogunyemi in a document titled, “Strike Bulletin No.1”, the strike action is to be a total, comprehensive and indefinite action whereby no form of academic activities including teaching, attendance of any meeting, conduct and supervision of any examination at any level, supervision of project or thesis at any level should take place at any of the nation’s universities.
In the bulletin signed by Ogunyemi,  ASUU recalled that it had to embark on a six month strike between July and December 2013 and the strike was suspended when government signed an MoU with the union. “Of all the items contained in the MoU, only the N200b out of a total of N1.3tr of the Public Universities Revitalisation (Needs Assessment) fund was released.

“The union also embarked on a one week warning strike in November 2016 to press for the implementation of 2013 MoU. However government did not implement the understanding reach between the union and Federal Government base on the intervention by the leadership of Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.

Stating further, “The union has also met with the 2009 Agreement Implementation Monitoring Committee, IMC, and had written several letters press releases and communiqués on the outstanding issues to no avail. The National Executive Council, NEC, of ASUU then met at the University of Abuja on August 12 2017 to consider the result of a referendum from all branches in a bid to ascertain ways of convincing government to implement outstanding aspects of the 2009 and the MoU of 2013”.
Ogunyemi listed the outstanding issues with the Federal Government to include: payment of fractions/non-payment of salaries; non-payment of earned academic allowances, non releases of operational license of NUPEMCO; non implementation of the provisions of the 2014 pension reform act with respect to retired professors and their salaries, removal of universities staff schools from funding by government and funds for the revitalisation of public universities.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has denied that it has plans to pay former members of the scheme the sum of N75,000 each.
The NYSC said it has no such plan as reported by a section of the media recently.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the director of press of the NYSC, Mrs Bose Aderibigbe, reacted to the report in a statement on Saturday, August 12, 2017.
According to the NYSC, those who published the story relied on a false Facebook account.
“The attention of the NYSC management has been drawn to the publication which is false and misleading, the public should disregard it.
“A fake Facebook account, NYSC Online, has also been spreading the content published by some bloggers.

“We further wish to inform our esteemed stakeholders that the so-called NYSC 0nline is not the official Facebook page of the National Youth Service Corps.
“The authentic information from the NYSC’s activities can be accessed through our official Facebook page on www.facebook.com/officialnysc,” Aderibigbe said.
We earlier reported that the director-general of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Zakari Kazaure, is encouraging participants in the scheme to engage in inter-ethnic marriages.
To show his zeal to ensure this is achieved, he also promised to personally attend any of such weddings that takes place between members of the scheme.
The NYSC was set up to encourage unity among the various ethnic groups in the country through youth participation in the scheme.

JAMB Awaiting Result Upload, Reasons & Deadline For O'level Result Upload

$
0
0

We are using this meduim to inform all candidates who sat for the 2017 UTME, Choose Awaiting Results and also Seeking Admission into the Tertiary Institutions are hereby advised to commence upload of O'level results [WAEC, NECO, GCE/ NABTEB].

According to the Joint Admission Matriculation Board the portal for the upload of O'level results are already active.

Any candidate who fails to upload their results, between May 1st  and August 31st, 2017 would not be confirmed to gain admission into any tertiary institution.

Reasons given for the upload of the O'level results to Jamb portal are because it will help the board to grant admission to only qualified candidates who are ready to advance their educational pursuit in tertiary institutions, conserve resources and also provide credible data.

It was discovered last year that many institutions admitted candidates on merit only for them to discover that such candidates do not have qualified O’levels results or the right combination for admission.

Such schools had to delete and start the process all over again, thereby denying other qualified candidates the opportunities for admissions.

This year admission will be taking a new dimension because the Board will be involved in the review and granting of admission to candidates.

Candidates can perform the Upload of their O'level results in any accredited CBT Centers.

The Portal are not accessible for individual Upload of O'level results which means that Unauthorized Cafes/CBT Centers can not perform the process.

NOTE: The JAMB Admission Cut-Off Points will be decided after the Officials Meeting before proper admission begins.

Moreover candidates are also informed that the Change of Course/Institution applications and other Correction of Data has also commenced. Both Individuals, Cafes and CBT Centers have access to these services.

The Board has also disclosed that the Change Of Course/Institution remains Ongoing Till 2017/2018 Admission Is Concluded.

Direct Entry applicants are also informed that the Registration portal is still active and as such disregard rumors of Closing.

The Closing Date will be announced when the board confirms that all students has successfully registered especially those candidates who applied for the JAMB Number via Regularization.

The Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan (UI), prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka has advice candidates seeking admission into the institution to beware of fraudsters.
There are rumour circulating on some social media regarding the 2017/2018 admission process to the University of Ibadan.
The VC.  who expressed concern over the counterfeit information intended to mislead and defraud candidates hinted that “when the process begins, genuine information will be placed on the University’s website for the consumption of the candidates and necessary steps to take”.

According to the VC, “Very soon, a meeting of the Senate would be convened to make a decision on this matter, thereafter, a formal announcement would be made on the modalities to be adopted in screening those candidates who must have chosen the University of Ibadan for admission”.
He urged parents to advise their wards against playing into the fraudulent traps orchestrated by some criminal elements who see every admission year as an opportunity to defraud unsuspecting and desperate candidates.
He further warned candidates against giving anybody money or paying money into anyone’s account, saying admission to UI is purely on merit.
