DELSU To Conduct Aptitude Test For 2017 Admission Screening Exercise

$

The Registrar of the Delta State University, Daniel Urhibo while briefing newsmen today disclosed the institutions plans towards the admission of undergraduates for the 2017/2018 session.
Mr Daniel Urhibo has stated that there will be an aptitude test to be conducted for candidates applying for the 2017 admission into undergraduate programmes offered in the university.

According to him the Aptitude is going to be Computer Based and different from the normal JAMB UTME.

He highlighted on the importance of the aptitude test when it was made clear that the Federal Government has scrapped the POST-UTME.

Read the response below:
"The Federal Government did not scrap post-UTME test". “It is the same agency of the government that said ‘you can select your students’.

“Twenty-six thousand candidates applied to DELSU; how do you select, may be 5,000 or 6,000? There must be some kind of uniform test to assess them.

“Last year, we asked them to submit their secondary school results and we graded them. Do you know that people claiming to have ‘A’s in their results could not write their names?

“Some of them had forged results. We went to the internet and discovered that somebody who claimed to have scored 300 in UTME had just 120.

“So, if you use that type, you won’t get the best; that is why there is some kind of a little aptitude test for them.”

Regarding the N5000 candidates are expected to pay for the screening as against the 2,500 approved by the federal Government last year, he said that the N5000 is to cover the cost of the aptitude test as the schools is not in good financial position to cover the cost.

He mentioned that the school need money to get materials for the test, pay those that will administer the aptitude test and mark it as well as service its computers and develop the software for the test.

$
0
0

What does it mean when WAEC held/witheld results? What does it mean to have outstanding in some subjects in WAEC result? What does it mean to be replied by WAEC server with ‘No Result For This Candidate in the specified year‘?

Meaning of Witheld WAEC Result

Possibility of release: Slim

This occurs when almost all the candidates in a particular centre had same grade. WAEC will further investigate the result. If truly the candidates engaged in any form of malpractice during the exam, such results would be seized and not released. But if reverse is the case, they would be released.

Meaning of Held WAEC Result

Possibility of release: Slim

'Held' means candidates violated the rules & regulations guiding the conduct of our examination. NEC will meet to decide on that.

Meaning of Outstanding in WAEC Result

Possibility of release: Medium

'Outstanding' means pending. Errors made by candidates during registration & or examination are being corrected & results will be released.

Meaning of ‘No Result For This Candidate in the specified year‘ in WAEC Result

Possibility of release: Slim

This often happened to candidates that registered with special centres.

If you are not guilty of any examination offenses and your result shows any of the tags stated above, there is high possibility of release.

Nigerian guy breaks down after checking WAEC result, says he should have cheated

Following the recent release of WAEC results nationwide, we have seen some pretty good results and some really bad ones
A young Nigerian man identified as Lyambee Sade Aorabee has been left in a vulnerable state after seeing his WAEC result.
The young man, though broken, took to his social media page to share the result with his friends and family.

Lyambee Sade Aorabee. Source: Facebook

He did this while attaching a strong caption to the uploaded result. From the way he wrote, it was obvious that the young man had given up on himself and has accepted defeat.
He apologized to his mother while acknowledging the fact that he has let her down. He also mentioned that could have cheated but his ego would not let him stoop that low.
“Always knew I was the dull one. I’m sorry mama! I didn’t make it. Should’ve cheated — but no, ego and self righteousness got the better of me” He wrote on Facebook.

However, Aorabee’s friends on Facebook could not let it slide as they dropped lots of comforting comments to cheer him up. He was advised to buy the form again, try his best again and look at the brighter side of life.
Check out how Nigerians encouraged him below:
Keep your head up Lyambee Sade Aorabee, There are better things ahead!

The development came up sequel to a request made by the Minister of Education of The Gambia,
Honourable Badara Joof to his Nigerian counterpart, Malam Adamu Adamu, for educational support in the area of capacity building and capital development.

The minister of education mandated the National Universities Commission, (NUC) and the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to coordinate and this led to a meeting convened by the Executive Secretary, NUC with the registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede and twelve selected universities to discuss how to carry out the Honourable Minister of Education’s directives.

In his opening remarks at the meeting, the NUC Executive Secretary,Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, reiterated the need to assist Nigeria’s big brother, the Gambia.
He said it was necessary to render the assistance to The Gambia in order to develop its human capacity and strengthen the educational institutions for the rapid development of the country.

Rasheed explained that, as one of the smallest countries in the world, The Gambia had always relied on Nigeria for assistance in several areas such as education, Judiciary, security, among others. He added that Nigerian Professors pioneered the management of The Gambian University, as Vice-Chancellors.
Professor Rasheed said that such assistance was capable of not only scaling up the rating of Nigerian
universities globally, with the presence of foreign students but also with the award of scholarship which were some of the criteria for ranking.
He observed that the request, coming at a time when Nigerian universities were been criticised by some people was a relief and an indication that the Nigerian universities were not doing badly.
The NUC Scribe promised that the Commission would increase the quota of the selected universities to enable them accommodate the students.
